Locksmith in London, OntarioHigh security locks, fitted to the whole door.
Picking, bumping and drilling are the tricks a good cylinder defeats. A kicked frame is what a deep strike and long screws defeat. We upgrade both together and set up keys that only you can have copied.
Moving house is a long list, and the locks are easy to forget until the first night. We suggest making them one of the first calls. A rekey of every exterior door, including the one from the garage into the kitchen, means the previous owner's spare under the mat and the copy their painter kept are just brass. You settle in knowing exactly how many keys exist.
Told what to expect. Before starting we say how long the work usually takes, what noise or mess is involved and what the door will be like afterwards.
Room to decline. If a suggestion does not suit you, decline it. We will do what you asked for, do it well and leave the rest as advice.
A tidy handover. Keys counted into your hand, the area cleaned, the old parts dealt with and a plain summary of the work. Then we are gone.

Think of this page as a menu rather than a manual. You do not need to know the name of the part or the type of cylinder in your door. Pick the section that sounds closest, read what the visit looks like, and we will fill in the details together.

The call
The moving truck has left, half the boxes are inside, and the single key the previous owner handed over turns the knob but not the deadbolt. Someone locked it on the way out, and nobody has a key that fits it.
The keys the seller handed over came in a sandwich bag: six unlabelled copies for two locks of different makes from different decades. You have no idea how many more copies exist or who is holding them.
The pharmacy stockroom, the server closet or the cash office is protected by the same ordinary cylinder as the staff washroom. One lost key on a lanyard would open all of them.
Read here if you want to stop wondering about old keys and thin hardware. We fit locks that resist the common attacks, set up keys that only you can have copied, and leave you a written record of what was installed and who holds what.
You run a home office with client files and equipment, and your insurer has asked what kind of lock is on the door. The honest answer is the builder's knob lock and a light deadbolt from when the house was new.
There is a hole where the cylinder used to be. Somebody twisted it out of the deadbolt with a wrench, and now the empty bore looks straight through to the kitchen, with the bolt still stuck in the frame.

Small businesses often run on one key that everyone has a copy of. It works until it does not. The commercial pages explain the steps up from that: rekeying to a known set, a master system, then keypads or cards when keys become more trouble than they are worth.
Changing a combination is not only for a safe that has stopped opening. Businesses routinely have a working safe recombined the moment someone who knew the old code leaves, retires or changes roles, because a combination known outside the…

About 52% of homes in London were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Where most homes were built decades ago, doors often still carry their original mortise locks and brass knobs. That hardware can usually be cleaned, re-sprung and kept in service, with a modern deadbolt added above it for strength without losing the look.
Single-detached houses make up about 49% of homes in London (2021 Census).Where the housing is mixed, expectations about what can be changed differ. A homeowner in a house decides everything; a condo owner works within house rules on the outer face. The locksmith knows which conversation to have at which door.

How often should a business change its keys as a matter of routine?
There is no fixed interval. Rekey on events rather than on a calendar: a key not returned, a lease change, a break-in, a renovation crew finished, or a key count that no longer matches the register. Businesses with a good register and a restricted keyway often go years between rekeys because nothing prompts one. A yearly check of the register against the keys on the hook is the habit that tells you when the time has come.
What condition does a lock need to be in to be rekeyed?
It needs a plug that rotates without catching, pins that return under their springs, and a face free of heavy corrosion or cracks. Most commercial cylinders in daily use pass easily. Ones that are stiff, gritty or green with salt bloom can sometimes be cleaned and repinned, and the locksmith will say when a replacement for that door is the better value; the rest of the doors are rekeyed regardless.
Can the aluminum storefront door on our unit be rekeyed?
Yes. The narrow stile of a storefront door houses a screw-in mortise cylinder secured from the edge, and it unthreads, is repinned and screws back in like any other. What the locksmith watches is the cam: it has to suit the hook or deadbolt mechanism inside the door and sit at the correct depth, or the bolt throws short. Weather-facing cylinders showing salt wear are pointed out so you can decide on replacement.
Do I need to replace my whole deadbolt or just the cylinder?
It depends on what you have. If the deadbolt is a good heavy unit that throws a full inch into a proper strike, a high security cylinder can replace the ordinary one and the rest stays. If the deadbolt is light, worn or throws a short bolt, a new graded deadbolt with a hardened bolt is the sensible base and the high security cylinder goes into that. The assessment tells you which, door by door.
